Nathaniel Bassey is a Nigerian gospel minister, worship leader, trumpeter, and songwriter widely known for his strong emphasis on prayer-centered worship. Born on August 27, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria, he grew up in a Christian home, with his father serving as a minister in the Apostolic Church. He studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos and later trained in music at the Middlesex University Summer School in the United Kingdom, where he honed his skills in trumpet performance and composition.
Bassey rose to prominence through songs that combine deep spiritual themes with accessible melodies, including Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro, and Yahweh Yahweh. In 2017, he launched the Hallelujah Challenge, an online prayer and praise movement that draws thousands of participants daily from around the world and has become a defining part of his ministry. Beyond music, he is known for his teachings on prayer, consecration, and reverence for God.
